The original beach restaurant of Praia do Garrão Nascente remains one of the Algarve’s great sunset addresses, and there is every reason it has endured.

There is a reason a restaurant stays on the same stretch of sand for more than four decades. For over 45 years, Julia’s has been an icon of Praia do Garrão Nascente, proudly holding its place as the very first restaurant on this beautiful stretch of beach, set between Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Few beachfront addresses in the Algarve can match its setting, and fewer still pair sweeping ocean views with hospitality this genuine, which is precisely why generations of guests keep returning.
At the heart of Julia’s is a simple philosophy, exceptional fresh produce, warm and attentive service, a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere and the perfect soundtrack of live music. The family team has been led by Rui Anjos for nearly 30 years, alongside Shelley, Martin and a dedicated team of more than 35 long-serving staff, many of whom have been part of the Julia’s story for over two decades. Their ambition has never changed, outstanding international cuisine and exceptional service on every visit.
Over the years, Julia’s has evolved from a charming beachside eatery into one of the Algarve’s most celebrated seaside restaurants, without ever losing sight of what matters most, making every guest feel welcome.

The open-sided dining room and spacious terraces merge seamlessly with the sand and sea, so that the Atlantic becomes part of the décor. Families, friends and couples mingle easily in the welcoming atmosphere, while the elevated mid-level deck offers a more intimate setting, slightly removed from the bustle, with some of the most spectacular coastal views imaginable.
Today the restaurant’s contemporary, elegant interior frames the ocean through floor-to-ceiling views. Bathed in natural light and inspired by the coastline, it is a stylish yet relaxed space that allows the surroundings to take centre stage while you savour fresh, seasonal cuisine. The views, quite simply, are mesmerising, from the golden sweep of the beach towards Vale do Lobo to the soft pastel hues of the evening sky. As the sun sinks towards the Atlantic, Julia’s becomes one of the most stunning places on the coast to watch the sunset.
Beyond the restaurant lies the Beach Bar, where magical moments unfold from morning until sunset. Guests gather with family and friends over handcrafted cocktails, chilled rosé and delicious bites, feet in the sand and the sound of the waves just metres away. Long, leisurely afternoons drift effortlessly into golden evenings, and on music nights the live sets add a wonderful energy. There is always something special about enjoying a meal to live music, and at Julia’s it plays every Sunday, plus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in season.
It is a place where celebrations happen naturally, laughter carries on the ocean breeze and every visit feels like summer at its very best.

The menu is broad and generous, with a strong emphasis on the sea and an excellent wine selection to match. Highlights include the house signature, Gambas à Julia’s (wild giant prawns sautéed in red chilli sauce and served with African rice), fresh oysters from the Ria Formosa, Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato, a traditional Caldeirada à Julia’s fish stew, and an Algarvian cataplana to share. The fresh fish, from sea bass and sea bream to sole and turbot, is served simply with sautéed vegetables, while a seafood platter of oysters, clams, mussels, prawns and dressed crab makes a fine centrepiece for two. For those who prefer meat, there is grilled ribeye and sirloin finished with fleur de sel and a herb-crusted rack of lamb, alongside thoughtful vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

More than four decades after first opening its doors, Julia’s remains one of the Algarve’s most treasured dining destinations, a stunning location, a wonderful atmosphere, a great menu and wine list, live music and a sunset that stays with you long after the evening ends. Whether for a morning coffee, a leisurely lunch or a memorable dinner by the sea, it is an address that more than earns its reputation.
