London has no shortage of exceptional hotels, but every so often, one quietly distinguishes itself, not with grandeur, but with intentional elegance, a sense of place, and an understanding of the modern traveller’s rhythm. Vintry & Mercer, a boutique five-star hotel tucked discreetly in the City of London, is one such address.

Part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, the property is perfectly positioned where centuries of commerce meet contemporary London life. Inspired by the area’s rich trading history, Vintry for wine merchants, Mercer for the purveyors of fine silks, the hotel reflects a unique blend of heritage and modern design. It feels like stepping into a story, one written in velvet, marble, and quiet refinement.

I checked into a Deluxe Studio, a room that felt more like a beautifully designed city apartment than a hotel suite. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked London’s rooftops, while a velvet headboard, plump armchairs and layered lighting created a sense of warmth and intimacy. A Marshall speaker, Nespresso machine and complimentary soft drinks added to the feeling of being both looked after and left in peace, the balance every frequent traveller craves.

The bathroom was particularly memorable, a freestanding bath, anti-steam mirror, heated floors and even a speaker and built-in TV created a spa-like feel. Details matter here, and they’re not just aesthetic. From Ortigia Sicilia toiletries to robes that actually feel luxurious, there’s a consistency of quality that rarely falters.

Dining at Vintry & Mercer is a full experience in itself. I began the afternoon on the Mercer Roof Terrace, where views across the skyline framed a refined yet relaxed setting. For those looking for a more intimate setting, there is DND (Do Not Disturb), the hotel’s underground speakeasy bar, for a perfectly made cocktail in bar that will make you feel worlds away from the bustle of the City above.

Mornings were spent in Vintry Kitchen, the hotel’s all-day café-style restaurant. A calm, well-lit space with classic breakfast favourites and excellent coffee, it’s where I caught up on work between meetings, another quiet luxury in a city that rarely slows down.

What sets Vintry & Mercer apart isn’t just its attention to detail or its thoughtful design. It’s the way it makes you feel, like you’ve found a calm, well-dressed corner of the city that belongs entirely to you. For those seeking a hotel with soul, style and substance, this one’s worth bookmarking.

Perfect for discreet luxury travellers, creative professionals, and those who value architectural charm with five-star service. Whether you’re in town for business, leisure or simply a quiet reset, Vintry & Mercer offers a city stay with editorial polish and genuine warmth.
